Emergency Veterinarian

VCA Salem Animal Hospital is a growing hospital with 24 hour emergency care and general practice appointments 7 days a week.  We have openings for overnight and daytime emergency veterinarians and are searching for candidates who provide an excellent mutual fit.  A successful overnight veterinarian will be comfortable seeing an average of 12 cases per 12 hour overnight shift, managing admitted patients, performing typical emergency surgical procedures, being the only veterinarian on staff for most of the shift, and helping to train/teach our staff, all while embracing and championing our hospital priorities.  Sharing equal importance, these are patient care, client service, referring veterinarian service, medical records, staff morale, and minimized client wait times (less than 60 minutes is the goal).  A successful daytime veterinarian will be comfortable seeing up to 20 cases in a 12 hour shift, with all the other duties listed above.  The veterinarian will leverage available staff, as well as take the initiative to ensure patient flow to reach these goals (loading rooms, taking history, etc., when needed).  Qualities that will lend to great success include punctuality, high efficiency, strong leadership of the staff, remaining composed during chaotic periods, confidence, collegiality, reliability, and flexibility regarding scheduling.  The typical schedule for emergency veterinarians is three 12 hour shifts per week, with all attempts made to schedule them consecutively unless otherwise requested.  The schedule is posted 3 months at time, and the shifts are typically the same every week aside from vacation, CE, etc.  We prioritize work-life balance and the work hard, play hard approach.
