Unique Opportunity
North Coast Veterinary Hospital
The North Coast Veterinary Hospital is seeking two enthusiastic veterinarians to join the practice in a novel hybrid internship program. Located in the beautiful north coast in the heart of the redwoods, NCVH is supported by Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center. The practice offers a diverse range of medical, surgical, diagnostic and preventative equine care. This opportunity is unique in that it provides a year of equine medical experience in a smaller facility with support from specialists at a larger center. As such, the scope of the program provides learning in both general equine practice as well as the specialized fields at a referral hospital. The Hybrid Internship Program with NCVH is an opportunity to learn and gain diverse experience in private practice under a combined mentorship program of general practitioners as well as specialists from different areas. This dynamic program will include training with boarded specialists in surgery, internal medicine, critical care, and sports medicine. The program also offers the opportunity for 1-3 learning rotations at the LBEMC facility in Penryn, CA to gain more experience with anesthesia, reproduction and intensive care. Program Concept: The hybrid internship is ideally designed as a transition for individuals that have completed a one year internship or that want to gain experience in private practice but with continued mentorship. The program will focus on general equine medical, surgical, diagnostic and preventive care but also offer training in anesthesia and intensive care. Three one-month rotations at the LBEMC Penryn, CA hospital are available focusing on surgery/lameness, reproduction, dentistry and emergency. The program balances significant primary case responsibility supported by mentors when needed. Program Structure: The program will consist of educational rounds with specialists three mornings each week in the areas of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency/Critical Care and Sports Medicine. Appointments are seen independently or in combination with specialists to provide hands-on training and one on one guidance. The NCVH doctors are also available for help with cases and continued learning. Program Logistics: Timeframe: July 1 2021 through June 30 2022 (earlier start date possible) Location: North Coast Veterinary Hospital (Arcata, CA and Fortuna, CA) Schedule: 5 day workweek with rotating nights on call (2 days completely off) Please reach out to Dr. Langdon Fielding at email: lfielding@lbemc.com for further information about the Hybrid Internship Program with NCVH. Interested candidates please submit an application to HR@LBEMC.com.
