Under the direction of the Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery Service Chief, receive and manage cases on the soft tissue surgical service at the VMTH, including cases with a minimally invasive surgical focus and general internal surgical referrals. Consult on cases with a surgical focus in other clinical services in the VMTH and from referring veterinary hospitals. Participate in minimally invasive focused rounds (20/year). Participate in resident and veterinary student surgical training, including clinical instruction, laboratory instruction, weekly rounds, and board exam preparation. Perform clinical research in companion animal minimally invasive surgery and to present the findings at the Veterinary Endoscopy Society annual meeting. Rotate through the UCDMC surgical service in Sacramento (2 weeks). Study for and complete the requirements to become an ACVS Fellow in Minimally Invasive Surgery (Small Animal Soft Tissue), including the Veterinary Assessment of Laparoscopic Skills (VALS) evaluation, anesthesia and radiology requirements, and case logs.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD: Post for one month. Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Standing for extended period of time to perform surgical procedures.
- Work days that regularly exceed 10-12 hrs.
- Maneuver and lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Handle animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Contact with animals, including restraint of animal (sometimes fractious) as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Interact with numerous faculty, staff and residents on a daily basis by verbal, telephone and email conversations.
- Potential exposure to ionizing radiation due to use of intra-operative imaging equipment, and to anesthetic gasses due to proximity to anesthetized patients and equipment. The fellow will undergo specific training in regards to these hazards before commencing the position and will take all required precautions required by the VMTH and Environmental Health and Safety on campus.
- The position involves 36-40 weeks of daytime clinical duty including weekend inpatient care, and up to 4 weeks of after hours and weekend on-call responsibilities.

Required:
