Valley Equine Associates, PLLC is a small, but ambitious, full-service equine clinic located in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, with a wonderful opportunity for a veterinary surgical assistant to join our team. Our practice has been the backbone of equine medicine for Charles Town Racetrack and the surrounding farms for over 50 wonderful years!
Not only does our breathtaking landscape have an abundance of the half ton animals we know and love, it is also full of remarkable history, invaluable community, exciting adventure and rapid growth. You can white water raft the Potomac River, visit an abundance of local farmers' markets, or hop, skip, and jump to Washington D.C. and the East Coast.

With over 1,200 horses located just across the road, you can guarantee an upward trajectory on the learning curve. We have an array of clients from racetrack to sport horse spanning eastern West Virginia, northern Virginia, and western Maryland. An ideal candidate will be able to:
- Effectively communicate with staff and clients
- Problem solve and multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Adapt between working as part of a team as well as individually
- Prepare horses for surgery through pre-anesthetic administration, IV placement, clipping, etc.
- Assist surgeon in the care of surgical patients both pre-op and post-op
- Take diligent medical records/notes for patient history and billing
- Run and monitor anesthesia for horses on the table
- Properly identify, clean, pack and sterilize surgical equipment
- Deliver strong and professional customer service to clients
- Be dependable and reliable with a keen attention to detail and a willingness to continue learning!
The veterinary surgical assistant would be expected to work 5 days a week, Monday – Friday (approx. 8am-5pm).
