Do you want to try out a practice before taking a job? Make sure you are a good fit before moving to a new city? An externship is a great way to learn medicine, be hands on in a busy practice, but also have the potential to obtain a full-time position.
Whole Pet Veterinary Hospital Davidson is a privately owned 7-doctor small animal hospital specializing in exceptional patient and client care. What we are known for is integrating natural and holistic medicine in with our traditional medicine, surgery, and dentistry, but what we are most proud of is our exceptional kindness and care to both the animals and the clients. We see pets of any kind – dogs, cats, exotics, and even an occasional pig or chicken!
We can provide excited veterinary students with an externship which allows you to see the day to day in a very busy small animal practice. This is not an externship where you would stand around and just watch. It will be hands on, helping with the patients, and discussing the case and treatment options with our experienced veterinarians. You will be able to assist in surgeries and come into exam rooms during appointments to listen to the communication with owners and understand the thought process on diagnostics. Externs must be open to holistic treatment modalities. Because we often use alternative medicine, we see a large amount of second opinions. People come here often from several hours away, and we do our best to get to the bottom of the problem. We will teach you. It's easy and it works, and even the skeptical vets coming in have fully embraced these options when they get to experience the outcomes for themselves. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it! We are all excited to show you ways to treat the underlying problems in our patients and not just put a band-aid on the issue!
Each of our current veterinarians has different specialties and interests ranging from acupuncture and herbal medicine, to ultrasonography and echocardiography, PRP, soft tissue surgery, orthopedics, exotic medicine and surgery, dentistry, and oncology. Our integrative services include pet acupuncture, chiropractic and herbal medicine, as well as holistic nutrition, homeopathy, prolotherapy and laser therapy.
Our hospital is 9,000 sq ft with 16 exam rooms, 2 surgery suites, and a dental suite. Available equipment for use include doppler blood pressure, in-house blood work machines, ultrasound, digital xray, dental xray, Surgivet monitors, Holter monitors, Tonopen, therapeutic laser, surgical CO2 laser. We have it all and we encourage our vets to use it all!
We are located in Davidson, a beautiful town within the Lake Norman community north of Charlotte full of parks, restaurants, pedestrians, and a strong sense of community. Our typical clientele wants the very best for their pets and are motivated to take excellent care of them. We are very lucky!
Candidates must be kind and treat our patients like their own pets and be dedicated to provide excellent customer service to our clients. Externs need to have a willingness to learn about holistic medicine and alternative modalities since we use these treatment options with most of our patients during their wellness and sick exams.
We believe having a quality of life and work/life balance is important for all of our staff, including externs. We typically leave on time and have few days where we are exhausted by the end of the day. We are not open at night or on weekends and there is no on call. Externs would spend one day helping in surgery and the other days seeing appointments. A typical work week is four days a week, ten-hour days, however we can be flexible with this schedule. This externship could absolutely lead to full-time employment for the right person!
Job Type: Externship Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday 7am-6pm.
