The Elkhorn Veterinary Clinic is offering a 1-year equine and farm animal internship. The goal of this internship is to aid in launching a new veterinarian on their successful career path by providing outstanding mentorship, a supportive environment, and a competitive salary. There will be 7 veterinarians committed to the success of the intern by offering their views and experience in the field. Our practice believes in family, setting boundaries, and work-life balance.
The Elkhorn Veterinary Clinic is a busy, twelve doctor mixed animal practice employing 7 large animal veterinarians and 5 companion animal veterinarians. The clinic is located in southeast Wisconsin in an area well known as Chicago’s playground, with convenient access to Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison. Although housing is not provided, rental opportunities are plentiful in the area.
The internship program will provide structured mentorship in all aspects of equine ambulatory practice including preventive care, dentistry, lameness, internal medicine, reproduction, and 24-hour emergency ambulatory care. Additional mentorship will include commercial and pet farm animal ambulatory medicine represented by bovine (principally dairy), small ruminants, camelids, potbellied pigs, as well as some exotics. Currently the case load is approximately 75% equine, 20% farm animal, and under 5% exotic and pot-bellied pig.
The Elkhorn Veterinary Clinic is a full-service facility housing an in-house laboratory, in-hospital large animal treatment room, surgical padded stall with hydraulic table and adjoining stalls for day appointments and routine surgeries. The practice provides both in-house and mobile imaging with Next Equine Digital and VetRay radiography machines, 2 Logiq E ultrasound units, Classic Medical 480 ultrasound for reproductive exams, Butterfly ultrasound unit and portable bovine ultrasound unit. The clinic also has video endoscopy with a 1.5 meter and 3 meter scope. We have shockwave, therapeutic laser, and an array of conventional and regenerative medicine modalities including ProStride, Renovo and A2M. Ambulatory veterinarians also have access to stall-side SAA and lactate meters.
We are offering a competitive salary of $65,000/year with medical benefits (including health, dental and vision), 401(k), 10 days paid vacation, paid holidays, CE allowance, liability coverage, license fees, and employee assistance program.
