As a Veterinary Medical Officer you will work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop, implement and maintain consistent, fair, and compliant national regulatory policy for the veterinary biologics industry under the mission for the Center for Veterinary Biologics.
- The duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Anticipate, develop and implement short/long range regulatory policies for veterinary biologics that satisfy both consumer and industry needs in a highly diverse and rapidly evolving scientific arena.
- Develops, reviews, and provides comments on new/revised rules, regulations, and procedures governing the importation, licensure, and testing of veterinary biologics to under the Virus-Serum-Toxin Act.
- Plans, organizes, and participates in the execution of national programs to establish adequate testing standards to assay all veterinary biologics prior to release.
- Consultant and advisor to various government, professional and industry organizations, and the public concerning program objectives, scientific and administrative aspects of the biologics program.
- Maintains necessary comprehensive and authoritative familiarity with scientific and commercial developments in the field of veterinary medicine.
- Presents USDA requirements and policies for administration of the biologics program to various entities through speeches and written articles.
- Reviews applications for U.S. Veterinary Biologics Establishment Licenses, U.S. Veterinary Biological Product Licenses, U.S. Veterinary Biological Product Permits, and all related documents.

- In accordance with Office of Government Ethics regulations concerning conflict of interest, the incumbent will be required to submit a financial disclosure report within 30 days of their effective date of appointment and annually thereafter.
- Work is usually performed in an office, and sometimes in meeting rooms or laboratories.
- Although primarily sedentary office work, includes travel to attend various meetings.
